After the first analysis of the site I have decided to focus my attention on the investigation of the different activities done in the Southbank area.
What I have noticed is that mainly the buildings and the spaces of the Southbank are designed for cultural and commercial activities such as cinema, theatre, concert hall, museums, shops and restaurants. But the brutalist architecture of the buildings has offered more to people who walk the area. It has enhanced a natural customization of the public space thanks to the variety of spaces it offers.
In fact it is possible to see people using the space for different activities such as parkour, skateboarding, graffiti art...
Finally my first analysis has focused on defining those "conventional activities" the space has been designed for, and on the other hand the "subversive activities" where the space has been adapted to certain needs.
The aim is to understand how the "subversive activities" can become part of the cultural context and how they can actually play an important cultural and social role within the area.
The video briefly shows the different activities on site.
